Cane-Do Flyer
September 23 and 30 marked the inaugural classes of Cane-Do, which is a program that teaches self defense techniques to people with limited abilities. Cane-Do teaches you how to use physical aides such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes to augment your natural abilities to defend yourself if you’re attacked in the street.
Students who attended the premier classes learned how to use physical aides as bases of attack. One of the challenges of self defense for physically impaired people is knowing how to reach out with a limb to stave off an attack, without compromising the stability of your physical aide. Cane-Do classes teach you how to stabilize yourself during an altercation in the street, as well as how to use your physical aide as both a weapon and a means of concealment. This allows you to train and make mistakes in the classroom so you can be prepared on the street.
